Visionary Veterans – An Art Therapy Program

The Art Station, with help from United Way’s Veterans Fund, offers a 16 week art therapy program for returning OEF/OIF military personnel. Art Therapy is an effective treatment facilitated by an art therapist in which clients use creative process and artwork to explore their feelings, reconcile emotional conflicts, foster self-awareness, manage behavior, develop social skills, improve reality orientation, reduce anxiety, and increase self-esteem. Clay Hunt Suicide Prevention for American Veterans Act (Clay Hunt SAV Act)

Clay Hunt was a Marine veteran who died by suicide in March 2011. Clay was a founding member of several local veteran organizations, including Team Rubicon.

Robert A. McDonald, secretary of veterans affairs, is working to remake the agency more accountable to the millions of veterans it serves. The Department of Veterans Affairs provides everything from disability compensation and health care to cemetery services and educational benefits, but has been struggling to manage their waiting list for veterans to receive services.
